What is Altrusa ?

Membership is extended by invitation to individuals representing activities within the community. This diversity provides creative and effective programs for the community. Each Altrusa Club has its own board of directors, a strong committee system, and regular meetings, allowing every member to become personally involved in club projects and decisions.

Altrusa Clubs are organized into geographic Districts, each with its own governing body and offering annual conferences, workshops and leadership training seminars for all members. Altrusa of Akron is in District Five, which covers Ohio and the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. As of June 2008, there were 29 active clubs in the District with over 800 members.

Altrusa International holds a biennial convention for all of its membership. The next international convention will be held August 6-9th, 2009 in Indianapolis, IN. District Five sponsors an annual Conference. The District Five Conference for 2009 will be hosted by Saginaw, Michigan April 24-26, 2009.
